After spending last week in the UK, it feels great to be back in the swing of things and delving into the Spanish Segunda once again. Oddly enough, I didn’t come across too many Englishmen who could really talk about the Segunda. All I got were blank stares when trying to start a discussion about whether Celta’s David Rodriguez should be starting or not. Huh. This weekend marks Jornada 21 in the Spanish Segunda and even though we actually started with Jornada 2 because of the strike,  we are actually halfway due to Jornada 1 being made up back in early October. What started out as such a promising week on the Copa front for the Segunda sides ended in disappointment as Alcorcon and Cordoba exited the Copa in midweek games. I hope everyone enjoyed their Three Kings or ‘Reyes Magos’ holiday and got to watch plenty of futbol over the weekend.  It’s always fun to see what gifts people get especially some of the futbolistas who like to post photos of their gifts on Twitter. With this weekend being the final weekend of 2011 for futbol in the Segunda, you have to think that teams will want to go into the three week break with a win and some momentum as they build toward the second half of the season. The results from the weekend in the Segunda made for some rather desultory futbol watching as viewers were either treated to a lopsided result or a sleep-inducing goaless draw. Let’s start with Valladolid-Deportivo which was billed as a ‘Primera’ type of game only to see it devolve into a game of kick and giggle 0-0.
