What will programmers think of next? Actually, I’m a wee bit depressed I didn’t think of this minute waster iPhone app myself. If anything at all I’ve learned to look out for more football in the weeks to come with the hope of discovering new controversy all of us will want to remember down the road in gaming form. Inspired by the Special One poking Barcelona assistant Tito Vilanova in the eye during this season’s Supercopa, comes the recently released [...]

Just wanted to post a gathering of random thoughts from this weekend’s action in the Segunda which was overall pretty darn good. Deportivo might have beaten Girona 3-2 but they certainly didn’t dazzle anyone with their play. For a span of about 20 minutes in the first half, Oltra was good as gone as head coach but his players bailed him out. Depor have to start playing better on the road if theywant to get back into the top two [...]

It goes without saying that derbis throughout the futbol world are a special breed. Some are more well known than others and whether it be religious, political or geographical, it always makes for a special environment. Fans in Spain will be treated to the ‘derbi gallego’ in two weeks time when Celta play at Deportivo. However this week we have the pleasure of the Murcian derby with Cartagena taking on Murcia. Definitely no love lost here between these two and [...]

Usually the Friday night game in the Segunda has Villarreal B playing against some mid-table team that ends up being a bit on the listless side. In all fairness to the Baby Submariners, they have been one of the more exciting teams in the Segunda scoring so many late goals including a stoppage time equalizer against Girona last Friday. But this Friday we get to see a premier matchup of Segunda teams as surprising co-leader Sabadell travels to La Mancha [...]

Ronald v Messi, Messi v Ronaldo, it´s a tiring debate. Clubs go on an international break and we get the endless arguments about whether or not one is better than the other, and whether either of them are better than the greats that have played the game. It depends on your affiliation, your cultural background, your instincts really as to what makes a complete footballer. The individual flair of a top athlete at his best, running in space, or the [...]

The strange case of shirt sponsorships in La Liga, where many of the clubs in Spain are playing without one, has gotten just a tad stranger. A few outlets in Spain are reporting, El Mundo is one of them, but it all seems to have originated with journalist Alejandro Bascoy at Vavel.com, that a mysterious company called The Doyen Group has become one of the primary sponsors for not one, but three Spanish sides. At first it was strictly an [...]

I know that we are still inside the bubble, José Mourinho still runs the ship at the Santiago Bernabéu and they are still developing their legacy, trying to break the Guardiola/Barcelona hegemony in La Liga, but is there anyone who believes that Mourinho´s stay in Spain is long-term? I mean, does anyone have a bet to make that the ¨Special One¨ will run out the end of his contract at the Bernabeu? He´s stated he wants to return to England, [...]

The weeks in the Segunda season when there have been Copa matches always presents a problem for managers dealing with player selection. It’s tricky because of course you want to win but at the same time you want your guys to get their rest. In the end, some managers opt to rest their stars and starters and just hope for the best which is what Miroslav Djukic basically did with Valladolid. Djukic started all reserves and subsequently lost at Celta [...]

Usually I like to start my Friday preview by talking about some of the top matches of the weekend involving teams in the running for promotion or a squad that has recently caught fire. Not so this week! No, in celebration of the international break, our lonely eyes turn to Gimnastic and Cartagena, the bottom two teams in the Spanish Segundawho face off against each other on Sunday in Tarragona. Cartagena was the first team to make a coaching switch [...]
