FIXTURE ANALYSIS
SATURDAY
(Xerex vs. Tenerife): Both in the relegation zone. Xerex seems dead-certain to be relegated in 20th, but Tenerife still have life to crawl out of 18th.
(Deportivo vs. Valladolid): Depor (6th) still has a realistic shot at a Champions League place and with them being at home in the Stadio de Riazor; 19th place Valladolid probably doesn’t stand a chance.
(Atheletic Bilbao vs. Getafe): This should make for a riveting fixture. Athletic is in 7th and Getafe (8th), both clubs really want Europa League futbol.
(Real Madrid vs. Sporting Gijon): This could get ugly! You may want to avert the eyes of children and those who are squeamish. With Real Madrid recently being bounced from the Champions League by Lyon, La Liga is their shot for glory. Madrid is in 1st and Gijon is in 12th….poor Gijon has to deal with a bitter Los Blancos side.
(Espanyol vs. Sevilla): The Andalusian side also was recently ejected from the Champions League by CSKA Moskova. Sevilla is in 4th and Espanyol (14th). This fixture could be interesting because RCD Espanyol seems to play much better at home.
SUNDAY
(Malaga vs. Villarreal): (15) vs. (9th), ho hum, might not be all that exciting except Villarreal was ejected from Europa League by Wolfsburg recently, so The Yellow Submarine might have something to prove as they vie for a Europa League place.
(Mallorca vs. Atletico Madrid): This may be THE match of the weekend! 5th vs. 10th. Mallorca has greatly impressed the league and Atletico has underachieved. This could be a goal scoring feast, as both sides play very attacking futbol.
(Osasuna vs. Racing Santander): 13th hosting 16th, this could make for some ugly futbol, but I will remain positive. Osasuna supporters create a fine atmosphere and Santander are keen to keep clear of the relegation zone.
(Valencia vs. Almeria): Valencia in 3rd will welcome 11th place Almeria. Almeria can score, but their defense is average. Valencia allows too many goals for a 3rd place club wanting to compete for the League Trophy.
(Zaragoza vs. Barcelona): 17th place Zaragoza, with one of the WORST defenses in La Liga BBVA must be terrified to be hosting one of the most powerful offensive machines in Europe! This is another match that could be frightfully over by Half Time.
