Monday Morning Papers 05

Mundo Deportivo
Real Madrid: This is Frustrating! Disappointment from the blancos leadership for the blaugrana’s good run of luck and now they plead for a hand from Atleti.

Barcelona: Fed Up! Teixeira permitted the aggressiveness of Getafe, but Barca bet on spectacle even when playing with 10. Pep and the club lament that from Madrid come grave doubts of their superiority and his leadership. The defense is understaffed: Pique, Marquez, Alves and Toure on the bench at the Calderon. Pichichi Messi: With 16 goals and 7 assists, he has intervened in 46% of all goals scored.

Racing 1-1 Atletico Madrid: Perea gifts a draw against a combative Racing Santander.
Opinion: As much as I hate the conspiracies of the Villarato and the context in which most of these Spanish League campaigns are played in (madridismo v catalanismo fought amongst the media), I must say that it is getting extremely difficult to turn a blind eye to what’s happening to the blaugrana. They are getting hacked at, with little protection by the referees and the telling detail is the reaction by the Madrid papers and the frustration from the Real MAdrid administration as Barcelona continue winning despite it all.

Barcelona: And on top of it all they complain about the refs! Iniesta: “Teixeira damaged us horribly against Getafe. Xavi: “In Madrid they don’t like us and would prefer to talk about the refs.” But they don’t complain about this: Round 12: Barca-R.Madrid: Penalty not called, Pique on Cristiano. Round 14: Barca-Espanyol: non-existent penalty called on Xavi. Round 16: Sporting-Barca: Marquez penalty not called.

Real Madrid: Granero: “It is very easy playing with Xabi, Guti and Kaka. My favorite Goal? The one I plan on making against Lyon. The day they wouldn’t call me up, I had a really bad attitude. One day Barca will trip up. Higuain is the most effective forward in La Liga: One in every 3 shots on target is a goal.

Atletico Madrid: Forlan converts the only Atletico shot on goal. Quique and Portugal complain about the refs. Games: Malaga 0-0 Deportivo, Athletic 3-2 Xerez, Mallorca 1-0 Villareal, Osasuna 1-0 Tenerife, Almeria 3-1 Sporting, Zaragoza 2-1 Sevilla.

Opinion: The question most asked is what’s the main difference between the Spanish League and those in Italy or England. The answer besides the stylistic differences in the game itself is the relationship to the media. Italy’s is close, Gazzetta and the two Corriere’s have allegiances but nothing like the out-and-out war between white and blaugrana, madridismo and catalanismo that the Madrid papers and the Barcelona papers foment. The hatred is real, borering on the cartoonish really, but real nontheless.
