Fernando Gago Wants Out Of Madrid. No One Cares.

Written by Mando Wednesday, November 25, 2009

Fernando Gago at laligaweekly.comIt's no surprise that the ex-Boca Juniors prospect, sold to Real Madrid by the xeneises because they had Internet celebrity Ever Banega waiting in the wings, is ready to quit the Madrid club. Besides his worthlessness on the pitch, his role has been superseded by Xabi Alonso and Lass to some extent and his minutes are down.

One of his agents, Zoran Vekic (a rather interesting subject himself if the google entries are true) has stated that his client, the man-who-would-be-Fernando Redondo, has interest from Italy. I should ask him if the Milan runway is an option, as Spain have already dumped enough excess tonnage, I mean players, on the unfortunate Rossoneri. His other agent, Marcelo Lombilla (who clearly collects reclamation projects by also having Fabricio Coloccini in his stable) has said,

"it doesn't serve me to have a player who is unhappy at his club, who doesn't play. Gago, when he doesn't play, sits at home and cries. His one wish is to be counted on for more minutes and get his rhythm, because the World Cup is near and if he doesn't play Maradona won't call him."

Do I read this correctly, he sits at home and cries? I mean yes, we are at an interesting time in football, where the death of Robert Enke has drawn the blinds wide-open on the mental health issues that plague the modern footballer, and we should be more respectful and aware of the stress-ors that they go through, but is he that daft? It's not just that Xabi Alonso is the "President's big gamble and that's why he's playing over Gago", it's that Xabi Alonso is a first choice professional for club and country and Gago isn't worth the paper he was signed with. He's had 75 games with Real Madrid to impress since signing in 2007 and he hasn't, consistently, commiserate with his wish to be first choice for Pellegrini and Maradona.

He's not talented enough. There's nothing wrong with it.He may need a fresh start at a smaller club with fewer pressures than Madrid, and he's still young enough at 23 that he can grow as a player, but in the end, just go.

Oh, and stop crying.
