Champions League Preview: Real Madrid v AC Milan
The prevailing thought here is that we have two massive clubs meeting again in the biggest football competition on the planet and one (Madrid), has been on the downturn for so long in Europe that they have gathered up their money and spent their whole kitty to rebuild and recapture what they see as rightfully their’s (the weird looking cup), and the other (Milan), well they’ve been quietly trying to right their domestic form under Paco Rabbanne, I mean Leonardo, and having lost talismanic midfield general Kaka across the touchline to Madrid, they enter the match with a fat wallet from his sale, a teenager named Pato, the wheelchair brigade behind him, and one of the most embarrassing owners iin world football.
Is it any wonder that no one is giving the Italians any chance of meeting the Galacticos? Well, I’m not one of them. The talent is clearly on the Spanish side, but this is a very intelligent Milan side to be playing against. They have good ball-winners in midfield, and most importantly, Madrid have their best player, Cristiano Ronaldo out for the better part of another month. They are struggling to get the other Galacticos on the same page together and as was shown against Sevilla, their defense is horrible.
I stil predict a Madrid victory but it will still be closer than people think (1-0 or 2-1), and it would not surprise me to see a Milan 1-0 victory over a 10 man Madrid side.
